Hello there! Thanks for stopping by. I am hopeful that you will find something on here that will resonate with you and help you along your health and wellness journey.
A little background on myself: I am 27 years old and am finally now feeling like my body and mind are in a healthy place. From as far back as I can remember, I’ve had various health issues that went unexplained by modern, Western medical professionals. I suffered from poor digestion, even as a child, and had other various symptoms crop up throughout the years including migraines, eczema, aches and pains, anxiety, hair loss, and a terribly weak immune system. I went from doctor to doctor explaining my symptoms and would always leave with little understanding of what my body was going through and a prescription for a pill or a cream or some other band-aid form of medicine. No doctor really took the time to look at all of my symptoms holistically, until I found my way to a Functional Medicine doctor.
He had one look at my paperwork and exclaimed, “wow, you are symptomatic in many different categories. Sheeva, someone of your age and in your general good health should feel a lot better than this.” I wanted to jump up and say THANK YOU! I SHOULD FEEL MUCH BETTER THAN THIS! Finally I had found a doctor that understood that my various symptoms couldn’t just be swept under a rug or hid under a pile of prescriptions. It was then that he told me he had a hunch that I had leaky gut syndrome and that all, or most, of my symptoms were tied to my gut health. After various tests, it was confirmed that I did indeed have leaky gut syndrome and that my gut flora was severely compromised. Since receiving that diagnosis in early 2015 I have been on a journey to heal my gut and, miraculously, have watched most of my health “issues” disappear.
Aside from healing my stomach, one of the most influential parts of my health and wellness journey has been healing my mind. I had always had an incredible ability to persevere despite stressful or emotional events in my life. For many years I considered it a gift— I felt like I could handle anything and keep moving forward. I didn’t realize that what I was doing to my body and mind wasn’t a gift at all. I was burying and avoiding emotions and one day my body just said “that’s enough” and gave me the gift of crippling anxiety. Though it was a difficult 2 years, experiencing the difficulties of anxiety disorder led me to discover and explore the art of meditation and natural healing. I have since dabbled in various mind-body healing methods and am continually learning new things about myself and the human psyche and body.
I hope there is a little of something everyone can relate to on my blog. If you have any questions or comments, please don’t hesitate to contact me at sheeva[at]healthwanderer[dot]com or using the form below. I would love to hear from you.
Let’s wander to good health together!
